Hey guys,

My name is Dre, and I'm from sunny South Africa. I've been running on PS3 and GT for about the past 10 years. Set up a team, and was trying to run the touge setup on GT5 for a while, swapped over to GT6, and found myself getting annoyed with what was on offer. So i got myself an Xbox 360 and FM4 about 2 weeks ago, and I'm keen on tryin my hand with some FM Touge. Brought a team mate along to the dark side with me, so I hope I'll see you guys on the mountain sometime.

More newcomers are always welcome! Rare to see any GT player transfer to Forza though. Cheers.

Apologies if this ain't the place, but quick question guys ...

What's the deal with using race tyres? ... on GT5/6 we only ran on Sports Hards, so running Sports tyres makes more sense to me ...

P.S. Mods, please feel free to move this post as you see fit ...

It's simply because Forza doesn't allow players to restrict tire types the way GT does. If we could, we would force off race slicks and race weight reduction to keep cars "street legal". Since we can't outright ban these modifications in lobbies the only thing left to do is allow them.

However IMO the primary reason is because you can't PROVE someone is using race slicks unless you drive close to their car and inspect the tire sidewall. Obviously it is too much work to enforce anything like that in public lobbies so in an effort to make touge as accessible as possible the ONLY thing that we do not tolerate is people using Forza aero because:
a) It decreases PI and allows more room for engine upgrades so you get more power AND grip
b) If we tolerated Forza aero people would feel FORCED to attach ugly wings on their cars to keep up
c) Forza aero is EASILY detectable (much more than race tires or race weight reduction) so enforcing this ban is significantly easier and more accepted since you can say it is objectively fair to all players.

And that's about it, the good thing is that as far as tire compounds go, racing slicks in this game are only about as grippy as Racing Hard tires in GT (or Sports Soft maybe) and if EVERYONE uses slicks then nobody has an advantage/disadvantage and the competition stays relatively fair.

If you have more questions don't hesitate just ask away we're happy to answer.

Thanks KraZe ... that does explain a lot to me ... it's actually kinda crappy cause it takes away the "feel" of a street car, but I suppose one has to adapt to survive ... lol ...

Thanx again for the quick response ...

To be honest the only "feel" you get from sport tires is "this feels... slower".  Even though race slicks are a lot more sticky we are still cornering at the limit and you can DEFINITELY feel a car's characteristics in a corner if you're at the limit of grip no matter what speed or tire type you have.  So don't get too bummed out about having to use slicks you'll notice that the level of difficulty remains very high to extract all the performance you can from the tire.

If you want to think of a positive aspect of using slicks, the levels of grip are higher so the potential cornering speeds are higher which means the average racing pace is much faster which roughly translates to more "skills" required to drive at the limit (slaloming at 80 mph gives you a bit more time to relax and think when compared to doing it at 95 mph right?).  Hope this helps make the most of a crappy situation. haha

Bwahahahahaha ... I get your point bud, and it does make a helluva lot of sense ... let's just hope I can break into the 4 minute mark on slicks ... cause damn do I suck atm ... best I've managed is a 5:15:xxx ...

You've only had the game for 2 weeks right? Don't sweat it too much you'll get there.  The important thing is to have fun! If you're ever online but have no one to race then let us know here:

and hopefully someone is free and has their Xbox close to them.

Get to practicing while you can good luck! Very Happy
